Samsung GX-20 Press Release

Samsung SLR evolves with the launch of the GX-20

24 January 2008 – Samsung, leaders in digital imaging, today announces the launch of the 14.6 mega-pixel GX-20 digital SLR. The Samsung GX-20 is aimed firmly at the discerning enthusiast photographer who wants comprehensive functions, stunning design, ease of use and real value for money – all in one camera. Samsung also announces the launch of two new lenses, giving both GX-20 and GX-10 series users even more freedom to express their creativity.

Robert King, Commercial Director of Samsung Cameras says, “With the launch of the GX-20 digital SLR, Samsung has a full digital camera line-up ranging from convergent compact digital cameras through to high-end fully-featured digital SLRs. This product is the start of an exciting DSLR range for Samsung as it is our first DSLR with our own manufactured CMOS sensor. This is a very important step for Samsung which is set to support our expansion in this competitive product sector.
“The GX-10 is the next step in Samsung’s continued growth in the SLR market – the new GX-20 offers cutting-edge functions as well as outstanding picture quality to satisfy users of all abilities.”

GX-20 – Intelligent design
The GX20 boasts a 14.6 mega-pixel image sensor, which offers the photographer a sharper image with richer colours for a truly compelling composition. Taking photos is made easier with the Enhanced Digital Filter which allows a greater dynamic range of exposures and can also be used to add various effects or compensate for missing pixels after taking a picture. For unrivalled photo viewing, the GX-20 also comes complete with a wide view 2.7” TFT LCD (230k pixels) and live view through the optical viewfinder or LCD display.

With its powerful built-in Optical Picture Stabilisation (OPS) technology, the GX-20 prevents blurred pictures by shifting the CCD to counter any movement of the camera’s body. This function is designed to minimize shake by oscillating the image sensor vertically and horizontally – eliminating the need for additional anti-shake lenses.

The GX-20 is robust enough for taking quality pictures in wet, sandy or dusty conditions. The special water-resistant and anti-dusting body sealing protects 72 different parts and the advanced Dual Dust Removal System included in the GX-20 also removes problematic particles from the sensor, resulting in perfect, blemish-free pictures with minimum effort on the part of the photographer.

With the one-touch RAW button, built into the GX-20, RAW file shooting is made simple and instantly available to users even during general JPEG shooting. The RAW files can be checked on the LCD and then be directly converted to JPEG format via the built-in converter.

With the GX-20, continuous shooting at 3 fps (frames per second) is possible; up to 9 fps; giving the user the best chance to get a great picture.

A comprehensive lens offering
Samsung also announces the launch of two new lenses. These lenses have been designed to enable real freedom in the creative process and include: 18-55mm II F3.5~F5.6 and 18-250mm F3.5~F6.3. The lenses are also compatible with Samsung’s popular GX-10 DSLR.
The award winning i range and NV series (including EISA and TIPA awards) launched in 2007, have enabled Samsung to grow consistently and take market share in the compact camera space. The launch of the GX-20 will see Samsung building on the success of the GX-10 and increase its presence in the digital SLR market.

Key features:
* 14.6M, APS-C size Samsung CMOS Sensor
* Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)
* Dual Dust Reduction System (Dust reduction by shake & Special coating)

Samsung NV40 News Release

Samsung Broadens Award-Winning NV-Series With Two New Models

NV30 and NV40 Represent the Evolution of Samsung’s Celebrated NV-Series

Samsung is proud to introduce two new additions to its award-winning NV-Series of advanced point and shoot digital cameras – the 8.1 mega-pixel NV30 and 10 mega-pixel NV40. In addition to featuring elite NV-Series technology, such as the revolutionary Smart Touch user interface, the NV30 and NV40 also incorporate a new DRIM Engine image processor, for enhanced image quality and speed.

Combined with the cameras’ premium 3x optical zoom Schneider lenses, the new DRIM Engine yields outstanding image quality, producing some of the sharpest, most clear and color accurate images available today. The highest performing imaging sensor found in Samsung’s extensive array of digital cameras, the DRIM Engine also boasts a drastically improved shutter lag, shot-to-shot time and processing speed.

The NV30’s and NV40’s Dual Image Stabilization also adds to the shooting experience. Dual Image Stabilization combines both Samsung’s improved Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) modes. When selected, OIS and DIS work simultaneously to provide blur-free images, no matter how shaky the user’s hand may be.

“This is the next generation of Samsung’s award-winning NV series of digital cameras,” said Stewart Henderson, Vice President Marketing, Samsung Opto-Electronics America. “NV stands for New Vision, and the NV30 and NV40 are representative of the evolution of what has become our highly-successful, flagship line. At Samsung, we strive to deliver the most advanced, digital imaging solutions to consumers in products that not only offer a stylish design but also deliver images of incomparable quality.

Samsung’s NV-Series raises the bar among the key players in this industry and is sure to continue to be a formidable challenger to such photographic brands’ competitive offerings,” concluded Mr. Henderson.

In keeping with the NV-Series’ philosophy of encouraging users to get the most out of their camera’s robust functionality, Samsung has included a new, secondary Photo Style Selector (PSS) dial. Located on top of the cameras, opposite the standard mode dial, which allows users to set the NV30 and NV40 to a designated shooting mode, the new PSS dial represents a revolution in both design and functionality. Empowering the shooter’s thumb, the PSS dial brings a host of creative effects to the fingertip, allowing the user effortless access to seven types of color profiles, including Soft, Vivid, Forest, Retro, Cool, Calm and Classic.

On the back of the cameras’ brushed black, stainless steel bodies, lies Samsung’s Smart Touch user interface. Smart Touch enables easy navigation of the cameras’ comprehensive feature sets by simply sliding a finger across the control buttons positioned around the cameras’ 2.5” LCD screens, which will automatically brighten or dim depending on the current lighting situation. For reviewing and sharing images with others, the NV30 and NV40 also feature an intuitive Multi-Slide Show. With Multi-Slide Show, end-users can playback their images using five different slide transitions and can also have their images set to scroll to the cameras’ preloaded music or their own favorite MP3 files.

Users can also take advantage of advanced features such as Face Detection and Self Portrait mode. Face Detection technology makes taking pictures of family and friends a snap, as it detects up to nine faces and automatically adjusts focus and exposure to ensure better composition and image quality. Self Portrait mode is a unique functionality that takes the guessing out of taking a self portrait. By utilizing Face Detection technology, the NV30 and NV40 automatically detect the user’s face, adjusts focus and exposure, and will only allow a photo to be taken if the subject is centered in the frame. Additionally, with the ability to shoot at ISO 3200 and 14 scene modes to choose from, including Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-Up, Text, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow, Café, Food, and Self Portrait, shooters can effortlessly adjust the NV30 and NV40 and capture the best image possible in any setting.

The NV30 and NV40 also boast a Function Description feature. Designed to reduce the intimidation factor of the cameras’ various modes, the Function Description automatically provides a brief and easy to understand description of each setting when scrolling through the cameras’ menus, helping the end-user determine which setting is appropriate for their current shooting scenario.

These new NV cameras also have the ability to record at VGA resolution (640×480) at a maximum frame rate of 30fps. Shooters can also take advantage of the cameras’ movie stabilizers and 3x optical zooms while recording video and with Samsung’s Successive Recording mode, can pause, and then resume filming without having to save the clips as individual files.

Samsung i8 News Release

Samsung’s Invigorates i-Series With Addition of the Stylish i8

Samsung today announced the i8 – an eight mega-pixel, ultra-thin, ultra-stylish digital camera supporting Samsung’s PMP multimedia technology. PMP, which has become the defining feature of Samsung’s popular i-Series, gives users the ability to enjoy movies, videos and their favorite music while on-the-go.

The i8 boasts a redesigned body, sporting a glossy and reflective finish, and measures in at a pocket-sized 3.5" x 2.3" x 0.8". At the heart of the camera lies a high-performance, eight mega-pixel sensor that produces ultra-clear and sharp images. The i8 also features a non-protruding, 3x optical zoom, enabling shooters to get close to their subjects without compromising their low profiles. To help compose their shots, review their images, or enjoy video clips and movies, shooters can take advantage of the large 2.7" LCD screen, which will automatically brighten or dim depending on the current lighting situation. For reviewing and sharing images with others, the i8 also includes an intuitive Multi-Slide Show. With Multi-Slide Show, end-users can playback their images using five different slide transitions and can also have their images set to scroll to the camera’s preloaded music or their own favorite MP3 files.

“Samsung’s i-Series of ultra-compact digital cameras offers consumers features not found in any other digital camera on the market,” said Stewart Henderson, Vice President Marketing, Samsung Opto-Electronics America. “These cameras are entirely unique and revolutionary, and highlight the different technologies that Samsung brings to the market, and that’s especially true with our PMP technology. The i8 builds upon the i85, a CES INNOVATIONS Award winner, and takes our i-Series to a new level.”

When setting the camera to PMP mode, i8 users can easily listen to their favorite MP3 files or watch their favorite video content on the camera’s large, 2.7" high-resolution display. The bundled Digimax Converter software seamlessly converts the user’s MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV and ASF files for viewing on the i8. For music on-the-go, the software can also convert MP3 and WAV audio files in several simple steps. The innovative software also allows users to view subtitles, adjust the screen size and crop and stretch the image to fit the screen as desired. To listen to videos or music, the i8 features a 2.5mm headphone port and external speaker boasting SRS 3D acoustic technology.

Additionally, like the CES INNOVATIONS Award winning i85, the i8 also features Samsung’s innovative World Tour Guide function, which provides travel information covering 4,500 regions in 30 countries– helping users to plan trips and find their way while on the road.

The ultra-thin i8 also features advanced movie mode, which offers users SVGA (800×592) MPEG-4 video and advanced editing controls. By using the camera’s Successive Recording mode, users can pause, and then resume filming of video clips without having to save the clips as individual files. Additionally, users can operate the camera’s optical zoom while filming and can engage a movie stabilizer to compensate for unwanted camera movement and subject blur.

In low-light situations, shooters can rest assured that their images will come out sharp and clear as the i8 is equipped with Samsung’s DIS (Digital Image Stabilization) image stabilization system and an ISO equivalent of 1600. When engaged, DIS helps to minimize the effects of hand shake and ensures that the best shots are captured even in dimly lit conditions.

Shooters can also take advantage of the camera’s numerous user-friendly features, including its Face Detection and Auto Red Eye Fix modes. Face Detection makes taking pictures of family and friends a snap as it automatically detects up to nine faces and adjusts focus and exposure to ensure better composition and image quality – all the user needs to do is point and shoot. Shooters can remove red-eye during image payback, or for even greater convenience, set the i8 to Auto Red Eye Fix to automatically detect and eliminate red-eye from their images as they are taken.

Another user-friendly feature of the i8 is its Function Description feature. Designed to reduce the intimidation factor of the cameras’ various modes, the Function Description automatically provides a brief and easy to understand description of each setting when scrolling through the cameras’ menus, helping the end-user determine which setting is appropriate for their current shooting scenario. The i8’s Photo Help Guide is another intuitive feature incorporated into the digital camera. Photo Help Guide offers the end-user a guided tour of how to take better images as well as easy-to-follow tips instructing them how to obtain excellent results.

Samsung NV4 News Release

Samsung Introduces New Slim, PMP Ready NV4

Eight Mega-Pixel Multimedia Powerhouse Joins Samsung’s Flagship NV-Series

Samsung is proud to announce the NV4 – the second digital camera in its flagship NV-Series to feature PMP technology, which enables users the ability to enjoy movies, videos and even their favorite music while on-the-go.

The NV4 packs an eight mega-pixel sensor in a stylish and ultra-compact stainless steel body, measuring a mere 3.7" x 2.2" x 0.7". This slim-styled shooter also features a high-quality, non-protruding, 3x optical zoom NV lens, which will help capture amazingly clear and detailed images. To help compose their shots, review their images, or enjoy video clips and movies, shooters can take advantage of the NV4’s large 2.5" LCD screen, which will automatically brighten or dim depending on the current lighting situation. For reviewing and sharing images with others, the NV4 also boasts an intuitive Multi-Slide Show. With Multi-Slide Show, end-users can playback their images using five different slide transitions and can also have their images set to scroll to the camera’s preloaded music or their own favorite MP3 files.

“Samsung first brought PMP technology to the NV-Series in 2006 with the introduction of NV3, and since then, PMP has truly resonated with consumers,” said Stewart Henderson, Vice President Marketing, Samsung Opto-Electronics America. “Like all of Samsung’s PMP capable digital cameras, the NV4 is an all-in-one solution geared towards simplifying the digital lifestyle of today’s tech connoisseur, giving he or she the ability to carry just one electronic device, not several gadgets like they currently do.”

In addition to PMP, the NV4 also features Samsung’s innovative World Tour Guide function, which provides travel information covering 4,500 regions in 30 countries– helping users to plan trips and find their way while on the road.

In keeping with the NV-Series’ philosophy of encouraging users to get the most out of their camera’s robust functionality, Samsung has included a new, secondary Photo Style Selector (PSS) dial. Located on top of the NV4’s slim-styled body opposite the standard mode dial, which allows users to set the NV4 to a designated shooting mode, the new PSS dial represents a revolution in both design and functionality. Empowering the shooter’s thumb, the PSS dial brings a host of creative effects to the fingertip, allowing the user effortless access to seven types of color profiles, including Soft, Vivid, Forest, Retro, Cool, Calm and Classic.

When setting the camera to PMP mode, NV4 users can easily listen to their favorite MP3 files or watch their favorite video content on the camera’s large, 2.5" high-resolution display. The bundled Digimax Converter software seamlessly converts the user’s MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV and ASF files for viewing on the NV4. For music on-the-go, the software can also convert MP3 and WAV audio files in several simple steps. The innovative software also allows users to view subtitles, adjust the screen size and crop and stretch the image to fit the screen as desired. To listen to videos or music, the NV4 features a 2.5mm headphone port and external speaker boasting SRS 3D acoustic technology.

The new NV4 also features i-movie mode, which offers users high-resolution SVGA (800×592) MPEG-4 video and advanced editing controls. By using the camera’s Successive Recording mode, users can pause, and then resume filming of video clips without having to save the clips as individual files. Additionally, users can operate the camera’s optical zoom while filming and can engage a movie stabilizer to compensate for unwanted camera movement and subject blur.

In low-light situations, shooters can rest assured that their images will come out sharp and clear as the NV4 is equipped with Samsung’s improved DIS (Digital Image Stabilization) image stabilization system and an ISO equivalent of 1600. When engaged, DIS helps to minimize the effects of hand shake and ensures that the best shots are captured even in dimly lit conditions.

Shooters can also take advantage of the camera’s numerous user-friendly features, including its Face Detection and Self Portrait modes. Face Detection makes taking pictures of family and friends a snap as it automatically detects up to nine faces and adjusts focus and exposure to ensure better composition and image quality – all the user needs to do is point and shoot. Self Portrait mode is a unique functionality that takes the guessing out of taking a self portrait. By utilizing Face Detection technology, the NV4 automatically detects the user’s face, adjusts focus and exposure, and will only allow a photo to be taken if the subject is centered in the frame.

With 14 scene modes to choose from, including Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-Up, Text, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow, Café, Food, and Self Portrait, shooters can effortlessly adjust the camera and capture the best image possible in any setting.
